Sociobiology

From EvoWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Sociobiology is the field of science which studies how interpersonal behavior is influenced by innate biological drives (i.e. genes). While sociobiology does have its critics, it is clearly absurd to suppose that such drives have no influence on behavior, therefore it makes sense to try to determine the true extent of that influence.

Sociobiology is a sub-discipline of ethology, and is related to the fields of evolutionary psychology, human behavioral ecology and dual inheritance theory.

The sociobiology discussion was started by Edward O. Wilson in his landmark 1975 Sociobiology: the New Synthesis.
