An ossicone is a horn or antler like bony outgrowth found on the skulls of some artiodactyl mammals, primarily giraffes. An ossicone differs from a horn in that skin covers and grows upon the surface, rather than horny keratin. It differs from an antler in that the ossicone, like a horn, is never shed during the animal's lifetime.
