Bruce Simat is an associate professor of biochemistry and human physiology at Northwestern College in St. Paul, MN.

Simat is a [supporter] of the [MacLaurin Institute], a "Christian Study Center at the University of Minnesota‿ dedicated to “Bringing God into the marketplace of ideas by communicating the Christian worldview with its transforming potential." The MacLaurin Institute "affirms the faith of Jesus Christ and the apostles. Along with the early church, we accept the authority of the Bible as the Old Testament and the New Testament, that is, as constituting the old covenant and the new covenant of God with his people. Thus we accept its teaching as authoritative and infallible."

Northwestern College is a conservatively Christian school that "[integrates] the educational philosophy of faith, learning and living" through two focuses: higher education and media.‿ “Northwestern is a community in which all learning is framed within the context of a Christian worldview. Every student who completes a four-year degree receives the equivalent of a second major in Bible in addition to the major of choice. Daily chapel is an integral part of the program where students hear world-renowned speakers and participate in praise and worship.‿ “Northwestern is an independent nonprofit enterprise that takes a Biblically Christian ethical and moral position and is theologically conservative in doctrine.‿

Northwestern College owns and operates 15 Christian media outlets (radio stations) located in Saint Paul/Minneapolis, MN; Duluth, MN; Fargo, ND; Madison, WI; Waterloo, IA; Des Moines, IA; Sioux Falls, SD; and Sarasota, FL.

The [biology degree] (pdf) description at Northwestern College is "The role of science and mathematics at Northwestern College… aiding students to enhance reasonsing skills and to understand how they relate to the creation. These courses stress the unity and interrelationships of knowledge, the crucial significance of ideas, and understanding of life as lived in harmony with the natural world. The sciences afford an understanding and appreciation for the physical world, the relationship between energy and matter, and the natural processes which are continuously at work. The content of the sciences is emphasized so that students may gain knowledge in the various scientific areas. Emphasis is also given to the essential methodology for scientific inquiry. Careful and selective observation, reflective thinking, empirical inquiry, and rigorous logic in reaching conclusions constitute the means of solving many problems."

Simat's [bio] from the Northwestern College website. A scholar.google.com search returned a total of three journal articles with BM Simat listed as the primary author, all of which were published over two decades ago.

One [commenter (http://www.pandasthumb.org/pt-archives/000939.html#c23535)] on the Panda's Thumb writes, "I graduated from [Northwestern College in St. Paul, MN] (with degrees in Bible, Sociology, and Communications). It took me almost 20 years to unlearn [the] utter nonsense that was passed off as biology at that school. I must say, my 'biology' professor was one of the nicest people I’ve ever known, but the entire course was one long creationism apologetic—nothing more. Same with the school’s 'earth science,' which was pure flood geology. Northwestern College is a small Fundamentalist school with a popular Christian radio station, the patronage of Rose Totino (who became a millionaire selling pizzas), and the distinction of having Billy Graham as its president for a couple of years several decades ago."
